Simple Daily Check-Ins To Add To Your Routine Right Now

During this difficult and unpredictable time, you’re likely checking in on friends, family, neighbors, coworkers, and many other people you care about. But are you taking the time to check in with yourself?

We’ve put together a guide to adding simple daily check-ins to your schedule. We even have some fun examples to get you started.

Here’s what you need to know about making time for you throughout the day:

Why checking in with yourself is so important right now

Committing to daily check-ins with yourself encourages you to take breaks, which can help boost your focus and reduce fatigue. It allows for a little me timeso you can practice your favorite form of self-care, and it promotes mindfulness so you can stay in tune with your thoughts and emotions. You’ve probably asked many other people how they’re feeling right now. It’s time to ask yourself the same question and check in with your physical and mental health.

Adding short check-ins to your everyday schedule is also an effective way to add structure to your day. As we continue to do our part and stay inside, this kind of structure can really help people who are new to working from home. Taking breaks away from work can also boost your productivity and reduce stress.

How to easily add daily check-ins to your everyday routine

Checking in with yourself doesn’t have to take up a large part of your day. Like most good habits, it’s better to start small until they become part of your routine. Your check-ins should also be something to look forward to, not be intimidated by.

To start, try setting an alarm to remind you to take a coffee or tea break (away from your desk or workspace) every day. Then, try putting time on your calendar for your favorite home workoutor a quick phone call with a friend or colleague. Figure out what works best with your current schedule and capabilities and work from there.

Some fun check-ins to try on your own

To get you started, we’ve put together a fill-in-the-blank exercise with examples of easy daily check-ins. Some of the tasks are as short as five minutes long. Others, like your self-care break, might be a bit longer (you’ve earned it).

Daily check-ins fill in the blank

Mix it up every day or stick with the same check-ins throughout the week. The choice is yours!
