5 Ways To Support Your Local Gym Right Now

As we continue to practice social distancing, many people are missing their local gym, studio, and fitness community. They’re also wondering how to support their favorite gyms and their staff from afar during this time.

Here are five ways you can show your local gyms and studios you care:

Stream their classes

In the wake of the COVID-19 shutdown, many gyms and studios got creative and started live-streaming their workouts — and many are now streaming on Gympass with Live Classes! New York-based studio Rowgatta, which offers high-intensity, low-impact workouts in a bootcamp format, is offering a variety of online workouts throughout the week. Some feature only bodyweight exercises, while others feature weights or rowers (a staple for an in-person Rowgatta class). Read more about their live-streamed classes on their website.

SWERVE, an indoor cycling studio based in New York, is also streaming classes that are available on Gympass. Their “HIIT to the Beat” class is a mix of strength training and cardio set to the beat of the music, and their “Cardio + Core” class is all about working on your core. Both online workouts require no equipment. Learn more on their website.

Rent their equipment

Some gyms have offered to rent out their equipment to help keep their members active at home. Rowgatta rented out almost all of their rowers, dumbbells, and kettlebells, and SWERVE rented out all of their bikes to people across New York City. Reach out to your frequently visited gyms to see if they have similar offers or would be interested in such an idea.

Shop their merchandise

Many gyms sell workout clothes, water bottles, and other fitness items in addition to providing online workout classes. Consider buying something (or a few things!) from their merch section as a way of chipping in during this unpredictable time. Just think, next time you hit the gym, you’ll be able to show off your new style.

Buy gift cards

Don’t need new workout gear? You can still support your favorite gym or studio by buying a gift card, if they offer them. You’ll help provide some immediate support while also giving yourself a treat to look forward to later.

Spread the word and show your support online

Engaging with gyms’ social media pages is a simple way to support the fitness community. Like, comment, and share their posts to raise awareness in the community for your favorite local gyms and studios. Or post your own post-workout sweaty selfie and tag the gym. Spreading the word will keep the buzz going until things return to normal.
