What To Listen To While Working Out (Besides Your Go-To Playlist)

Whether you’re the kind of person who spends hours creating the perfect workout playlist or the kind who just likes to hit shuffle when you hit the gym, we’ve all gotten bored with our usual workout songs at some point or another. If you’re looking for inspiration, there are plenty of options to set the scene for your next workout (and some aren’t even music-related).

Here are five things to listen to at the gym that aren’t your go-to workout playlist:

Audiobooks

Want to read more, but can’t seem to find the time to pick up a book? Tune into an audiobook during your next workout. It might be difficult to keep up with the story during a complex strength training session, so try listening on your next run or or during your next cardio workout. You’ll get to squeeze in some reading time, focus on something you enjoy while you log some miles, and have something to look forward to the next time you work out.

Podcasts

Podcasts are a fun option for anyone who’s gotten bored with their workout playlist. The key is to find podcasts about topics you’re interested in or want to learn more about. Whether you’re into history, politics, true crime, movies, music, or a little bit of everything, there’s a podcast out there you can dive into. You could even try a fitness podcast to really motivate you during your next workout.

Classical music

If you’re bored of your usual workout songs, try something different like classical music. It’s been proven to help with focus and motivation, and with the right tempo, a piece of classical music can help you give it your all in the last few seconds of your workout or help you cool down after a tough sweat session.

Soundtracks

Love the score of a certain film? Or maybe you enjoy the music from a video game you like? If you’re in need of some inspiration for your next workout playlist, think about the music that accompanies your favorite movies and video games. It’ll add some familiarity while you crush your workout.

Audio workouts

Of course, you could just listen to your workout instructor. There are plenty of audio fitness resources, including some available through Gympass Wellness, that will guide you through your next training session — no video required.
